Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), has gained itself a reputation as being an affordable alternative to Dubai Marina. The community houses around 60,000 residents. The area’s three-tower cluster design is set around four lakes, some with views over Dubai Marina or the Emirates Hills’ golf courses. Landscaping and roads are now complete and the district offers waterfront living for its residents.
JLT’s glistening towers along Sheikh Zayed Road across from Dubai Marina are hard to miss. Follow signs at exit 32 or 29 depending on whether you are heading to the north or south of the community. Two metro stations, JLT and Dubai Marina give the option of a car-less life, connecting you to the Mall of the Emirates, ‘old Dubai’ and the airport. Ibn Battuta Mall is just next door, Marina Mall across the road and it takes only 10 minutes to the Mall of the Emirates or the beach at JBR. Dubai Marina metro station serves the north and Jumeirah Lakes Towers station the south of JLT.
Who lives here?
JLT is unique, in as much as it is a freehold and free zone, thus attracting many professionals and small families from all parts of the world taking advantage of living and working in the same neighbourhood. If working elsewhere, JLT is well connected with the rest of Dubai and situated towards the Abu Dhabi end of Dubai, it also makes it an ideal commuter home for those working in the capital.
Amenities & facilities
The lakes’ promenades are great for dog walking, jogging or cycling. Children can enjoy themselves in covered playgrounds and parents will appreciate nurseries on their doorstep. For schools head about 10 kilometres in various directions. The community offers all the convenience stores needed, including express branches of major supermarket brands, pharmacies, medical centres, travel agents, pet shops, beauty parlours, laundries, gyms, as well as eateries and cafés and even interior décor shops, usually located in the tower podiums. Events, such as fairs and farmers markets, intend to tie the community together. McGettigan’s Irish Pub at the Bonninngton, offering brunches and quiz nights, has become the ‘local’ for residents.
JLT is all about high-rise apartment living, ranging from studios to three-bedrooms. Quality, size and price vary depending on the individual towers. Among those, which have made it onto the favourites list, thus fetching higher rents, are usually in the proximity of the metro stations. These include Green Lakes, Lake Terrace, Madina, Shera, Seef and Tamweel, and on the office side, Jumeirah Business Centre, Indigo, Saba and Reef.
